Support from others

Jackie, I am so sorry about what happened to Rasher. I couldn't believe it when i heard. We also had a very sad day when Foxy died and so can imagine how you and Neil must feel.
Maybe an ideia would be to wrtite a formal letter to the council and get anyone who wants to protest to sign it. I can translate the letter into portuguese if needed. please count on me for any help i can give. This cruelty is unacceptable and must be stopped!!!

Paul & I were very sorry to hear about Rasher - we left Sal on 5 October and had seen him on the beach. What an awful thing to happen.

I have written to Thomsons to make them aware of the danger. I will let you know their response. I am sure they will be horrified. Poor Rasher, Cross and Foxy - they didn't deserve it. Let's hope this furore will stop whoever is responsible before anything else happens.

  1. There has been a great deal of discussion on the best way to help on getting to the responsible for this cruel action and to stop once and 4 all more of these actions. We decided to contribute by starting an online petition, in both portuguese and english that we will circulate...with this we are expecting to prove that this is not a concern from foreigners: there are a lot of capeverdian that also are revolted with this. I also think that the procurador da justiça should be contacted to find out more about the legal frame of these actions. I´m available to do it if necessary. Becas&Silvia

  2. Who is killing dogs on the island of Sal? Who can answer our questions? Whoever is spreading poison is endangering the lives of the entire community. The poison has already cost the lives of at least three very special dogs. Who knows how many more dogs have been killed for which we cannot account, or other wildlife for that matter? This is utterly despicable and we must campaign to ensure that this never happens again.

  3. I was extremely sad to hear of Rashers passing in such horrific circumstances. We holidayed in Sal in march this year and I have many photo's of Cross, Bones, Foxy and the dogs around the Morabeza were delighful. We have 3 dogs here and it is beyong comprehension who wou;d knowingly want to cause such devastation.. Our thoughts are with you all Take care Pam & Carl x

  4. We have been working with the Camara for the past six months on a project to protect the animals of Sal. We have been given assurances that no poisioning has taken place since we reached an agreement with the ministers and the mayor over 4 months ago.
The Justice Ministers are currently working with ourselvs and Snr Antero Alfama to write animal welfare protection laws.
We have also now the backing of the police and the mayor to prosocute anyone found harming animals.
We would welcome the support and cooperation of the capeverdian community.Especially in teaching the local community how wrong animal abuse is and especially the major problem we have of locals stoning animals. So if anyone would like to join or give us any assistance please contact me
